## Course Review

#### Do the following in Mathematics 30-1: The KEY:

• Complete the two Practice Exams

## Unit 1: Set Theory

Complete all of the activities outlined below before writing the unit exam.
This unit will require about 10-15% of the time you spend on Math 30-2.

### Introduction

The following prerequisite concepts were covered in earlier math courses. These concepts may appear throughout the unit. Be sure to fully understand each before beginning the unit.
prime number = numbers that have only two distinct factors. For example, 2, 3, 5, 7, 11, 13...
composite number = numbers that have more than two distinct factors. For example, 4 is composite because 1, 2 and 4 are all factors of 4.
set of natural numbers = 1, 2, 3, 4, ...
set of whole numbers = 0, 1, 2, 3, ...
set of integer numbers = ...-3, -2, -1, 0, 1, 2, 3, ...
set of rational numbers = all numbers that can be written as a fraction. For example, -5, 0.2, 1.444...
set of irrational numbers = all numbers that cannot be written as a fraction (non-terminating, non-repeating decimals). For example, square root of 2.
set of real numbers = all rational and irrational numbers
